Putting the ‘Care’ in Cancer Care With Tata TrustsHomeOur Community EffortsCsr InitiativesPutting the Care in Cancer Care

India has a significant cancer burden which is growing, and patients need a higher level of cancer care because of health infrastructure constraints, a scarcity of oncology specialists, and above all – the inability to afford cancer treatment. This has led us to launch the Pfizer Cancer Care initiative in partnership with the Tata Trusts. Tata Trusts has created a special purpose vehicle for this - Alamelu Charitable Foundation) created by). The project aims to serve as a one-stop information and support program for patients and families at key cancer facilities supported by Tata Trusts.

The program is in its first phase of operation and provides the following services:
  • Health and Wellness Service Kiosks in Ranchi, Diphu, Silchar and Tirupati. These kiosks provide services such as counselling and interactive sessions on how to reduce the risk of cancer and other lifestyle-related disorders; counselling sessions for smoking cessation; screening for oral, cervical and breastcancer; and general physician examinations.
  • Community outreach and early detection camps for non-communicable diseases through screening of the catchment population and referral to the nearest healthcare centre.
  • Patient referral and tracking platform to track and capture demographic and screening related information to ensure timely treatment.
  • Virtual patient helpdesks complemented by an on-site patient navigator in the outpatient department (OPD) and day care centres in Ranchi, Diphu, Silchar and Tirupati.
